Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a young devotee allegedly cut off his own tongue with a knife at the Maa Kali Temple in Hansatuli village under Beguniapada block of Ganjam district. He inflicted the self harm over a family dispute.
According to reports, the incident occurred late at night. The young man, identified as Kiran Patra, arrived at the temple, and allegedly used a sharp knife to sever his tongue.
Soon after, he suffered severe pain and traumatic shock and collapsed. In the morning, locals found him lying in a critical condition near the temple gate in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police and called an ambulance.
The injured man was first taken to Khallikote Hospital for primary treatment and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for further care.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter. Further details are awaited.
