Brahmapur: The Ganjam administration on Sunday announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions ahead of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the district on August 4, 2026, urging commuters to cooperate as heavy vehicles will be rerouted to ensure the smooth movement of the Presidential convoy.
Addressing a press conference, Ganjam Collector and District Magistrate Keerthi Vasan V said the district administration, in coordination with the Gajapati district authorities, has drawn up a comprehensive traffic management plan, particularly for routes leading to Taptapani, where the President is scheduled to offer prayers.
Heavy vehicles and OSRTC buses coming from the Paralakhemundi side will be diverted directly to the National Highway via the Mohana–Digapahandi route, bypassing Brahmapur city. Similarly, vehicles arriving from the Patrapur side will be diverted through Chikiti to minimise congestion. Traffic personnel will be deployed at key junctions, and diversion points have been identified to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles.
“The President’s itinerary in Ganjam is brief. She will travel from Brahmapur to Taptapani to offer darshan and perform aarti at the Maa Kandhuni Devi Temple and the Shiva Temple before proceeding to the Army Air Defence College in Brahmapur. There are no public meetings or public events scheduled during her visit,” the Collector said.
He said the traffic diversions have been planned in view of the narrow stretch of road leading to Taptapani and the possibility of congestion due to the movement of the Presidential convoy. Motorists have been advised to follow the notified diversion routes and cooperate with the police and the district administration.
Ganjam Superintendent of Police Harisha B.C. and Brahmapur Superintendent of Police Dr. Saravana Vivek M, who were present at the briefing, said adequate security arrangements have also been put in place to ensure a smooth and incident-free visit.
President Murmu will be on a three-day visit to Odisha from August 3 to 5. She will inaugurate Jagadguru Kripalu University in Cuttack on August 3. On August 4, she will travel by train from Bhubaneswar to Brahmapur before proceeding to Taptapani for darshan at the Maa Kandhuni Devi Temple and the Shiva Temple. She will later visit the Army Air Defence College in Brahmapur and is scheduled to return on the morning of August 5.
