Bhubaneswar: A disruption in temple rituals has marred the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan at the historic Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The daily rituals of Mahaprabhu Lingaraj has remained suspended since Sunday evening following a dispute between Pujapanada and Badu servitors over the distribution of money collected from Bolbom devotees.
As per reports, although Badu sevaks arrived in the morning and performed their designated rituals, the Pujapanda sevayats remained absent. As a result, the morning rituals could not be conducted.
On the other hand, a massive crowd of Bolbom devotees was witnessed at Lingaraj temple, where the shrine resonated with continuous chants of Bol Bom. Devotees who had come from far and wide were left with no option but to offer only holy water without the traditional full-fledged worship.
Notably, the first Monday of Shravan is considered highly auspicious for Lord Shiva worship. Shravan is the fifth month in the Hindu lunar calendar and typically falls between July and August. It is named after the Shravana Nakshatra, which is most prominent during full moons in the Shravan month. It is the month during which Lord Shiva drank the poison during the Samudra Manthan to save the universe. Shravan is a month that cleanses one’s mind and soul spiritually. Devotees engage in fasts, chanting, and meditation. Fasting during this month imposes discipline and helps in cleansing one’s karmas.
