Bhubaneswar: A young man died after being trampled by a rough elephant in Keonjhar district on Monday evening.
The incident took place in Ghuntijuri village under the Patna forest range. The deceased has been identified as Madan Nayak.
According to reports, a herd of 19 elephants entered the village last evening and caused widespread disturbance. While local residents were trying to drive the elephants away, Nayak was attacked by one of the rough elephants.
Seriously injured, he was immediately rushed to the Ghatagaon Community Health Centre. Doctors declared him dead while he was undergoing treatment.
Local residents have expressed growing concern as elephant herds have been repeatedly entering human settlements in the region.
Following the incident, a Forest Department team reached the spot, assessed the situation, and advised people to remain cautious.
