Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain continued to lash the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, disrupting normal life across both the cities. Continuous downpour since last night left several areas waterlogged and caused significant inconvenience to residents.

In Bhubaneswar, 97.2 mm of rainfall was recorded by 5:00 am today.

In the past 12 hours ending at 7:00 AM, weather stations reported heavy to very heavy rainfall in several localities of Bhubaneswar. Madhusudan Nagar received the highest amount at 107.0 mm, followed by Nayapalli with 97.2 mm. Jagmohan Nagar recorded 90.4 mm, Lakshmi Sagar 90.0 mm, and Sahid Nagar 83.2 mm. Other areas also saw substantial rain, including Khandagiri at 73.2 mm, Kharabela Nagar at 59.4 mm, Chandrasekharpur at 50.2 mm, and Patia at 34.6 mm. The data was sourced from Zomato AWS stations.

The intense rain led to water entering houses in Shantipalli basti, where rainwater flooded about 20 homes, leaving residents distressed and struggling with the sudden inundation. Across various parts of the capital, low-lying localities remained submerged under accumulated rainwater. Public movement was hampered as roads turned slippery and waterlogged, while daily activities in both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were severely affected by the unrelenting showers.

Authorities advised people to stay cautious, avoid flooded stretches, and remain alert as the wet spell showed no immediate signs of easing in the twin cities.
