NDA Leaders Call Out Congress’ ‘Double Standards’ Over Jharkhand Agitation

New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday attacked the Congress party, accusing it of adopting “double standards” in dealing with the BJP-led Centre and the Opposition-ruled states, particularly Jharkhand, regarding allegations of exam irregularities.

The JMM-led ruling alliance in the state, of which Congress is a part, has come under fire amid ongoing protests over alleged irregularities in various recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Speaking to IANS outside the Parliament House, Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan said: “Regarding the protest in Jharkhand, I believe that the government, especially the policymakers whom the youth look up to, should continuously engage in dialogue with the students. I am happy that our Central government has respected their sentiments and given them due importance. I believe the Jharkhand government should also do the same.”

In an indirect reference to the Congress, Paswan said: “It’s (JMM’s) allies, who are till date taking out marches on the (paper leak) issue, don’t consider it necessary to even visit Jharkhand and only make calls for formality. This depicts their double standards.”

BJP MP Tarun Chugh hit out at Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “showing one face in Delhi and another in Jharkhand”.

“If your (JMM-Congress) government is in power and the students’ demands are right, why isn’t the Chief Minister and your government accepting their demands? The truth is that the people of the country have understood Rahul ji’s double standard. You did not utter a single word about paper leaks in Punjab, and not a single word was spoken by your government in favour of the students,” he told reporters outside Parliament.

He asserted that this “clearly shows their double standard” in dealing with the BJP-led government at the Centre and the Opposition-ruled states.

Adding to the criticism, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut said: “They (Opposition) do not agree with the government’s work or with the Bills that were supposed to be passed. Their traitor mentality is clearly visible to the country.”

Meanwhile, days after her remarks on Gen Z sparked a row, Ranaut called them a “part of the government”.

“It is because of Gen Z’s mandate that our government is in power for so many years. It is not true that only those 10-15 people who abuse during protests represent Gen Z. Today, the students who are sitting and protesting in Jharkhand are conducting themselves peacefully and responsibly…there are only a handful of people who are defaming Gen Z,” she told reporters.

“The Gen Z are our biggest strength, and we are proud of them,” Ranaut added.
