Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for Mayurbhanj district today, predicting extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the district. In view of the continuous rain and potential risks, the Mayurbhanj district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges.
The order covers government, private and all higher secondary schools. The District Collector announced the closure as a precautionary measure against the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal today. Under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over parts of north and west Odisha.
Besides Mayurbhanj, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Ganjam.
