Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has stepped up its relief efforts for flood-affected people, with the party preparing to send relief materials to five flood-hit districts from Saturday evening, OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das said.
The relief consignment includes around 15,000 packets containing chuda (flattened rice), guda (jaggery) and biscuits, besides nearly 6,000 polythene sheets, Das said while speaking to the media here on Saturday.
“We appealed to our leaders and party members to extend their support to the relief effort and collected a large quantity of relief materials with their help. We have also appealed to the AICC for support,” Das said.
He said relief vehicles would start moving from Saturday evening to Bhadrak, Balasore and three other flood-affected districts.
“We have decided to provide relief materials to the affected people in these five districts. Around 6,000 polythene sheets have been arranged, and nearly 15,000 packets containing chuda, guda and biscuits have been prepared,” Das said.
The relief materials will be distributed among people affected by the floods in the five districts, he added.
The Congress has also mobilised its leaders and party workers to assist in the relief efforts and ensure that the materials reach those affected by the floods, Das said.
