IMD Predicts Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms In Odisha From August 9 To 15

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over several districts of Odisha in the coming days due to the formation of low-pressure area over South West Bengal & adjoining North Odisha.

On August 9, an Orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Bargada and Sambalpur districts. Besides, a Yellow warning for heavy rainfall is in force for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagada, Nuapada and Balangir.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also very likely at isolated places over a large number of districts across the state, including coastal, northern and southern regions.

For August 10, a Yellow warning for heavy rainfall remains in place for Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Bargada and Sambalpur. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Bargada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

Similar conditions are likely to persist on August 11 and 12, with Yellow warnings for heavy rainfall over Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Bargada and Sambalpur, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the same set of districts covering coastal and interior Odisha.

On August 13, the Yellow warning for heavy rainfall will be limited to Sundargada and Kendujhar districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are forecast at isolated places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Bargada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

For August 14 and 15, only a Yellow warning for heavy rainfall at one or two places over Sundargada and Kendujhar has been issued.

Residents in the affected districts have been advised to remain prepared and take necessary precautions in view of the predicted weather conditions.
