Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident has come to light from Alupatna village under Brahmagiri police station limits after villagers spotted a body floating in the middle of Chilika Lake in front of the village on Thursday.
Panic spread among locals who immediately informed the police. On receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body.
Brahmagiri IIC Bamadev Swain said the deceased has been identified as Kaibalya Behera of Sannairi village under Nachuni police station. He was a fisherman by profession.
According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that Kaibalya met with an accident while fishing in Chilika Lake. He is believed to have fallen into the water, after which his boat drifted and was found floating ashore near the village.
The body has been sent for post-mortem. Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death and circumstances leading to the incident.
