Debagada: A skeleton of a female elephant has been recovered from Gogua Reserved Forest near Khilei village in the Riamal Range of Deogarh district.
According to forest officials, information was received about a skeleton lying inside the forest. Following this, a team from the Forest Department reached the spot and seized the remains. After seizing the skeleton, samples have been sent to OUAT, Bhubaneswar for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Initial investigation suggests that the elephant may have died a natural death. However, officials said the real reason will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report from OUAT is received.
The area has reported the presence of elephants for many days, and the department has intensified patrolling in the Riamal Range. Further investigation is underway.
