Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday hailed Team Odisha for its “spectacular victory” after Hockey Association of Odisha defeated Madhya Pradesh 2-1 to clinch the 16th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship title in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
“Heartiest congratulations to Team Odisha on a spectacular victory in the 16th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship,” Majhi posted on X, describing the triumph as a proud moment for the state and a reflection of the talent, determination and fighting spirit of its young hockey players.
Odisha made a blistering start to the final, with Mandeep Kerketta putting the side ahead in the second minute.
Madhya Pradesh fought back and eventually levelled through Sohil Ali in the 37th minute, setting up a tense final quarter.
Odisha regained the lead through captain Deepak Pradhan in the 45th minute and then held firm against sustained pressure from Madhya Pradesh in the closing stages.
The Odisha defence stood resolute to preserve the 2-1 advantage until the final hooter, handing Hockey Association of Odisha the Division A championship crown.
