Bhubaneswar: The Low Pressure Area over north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand has now moved over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh as of 8:30 AM today, August 9, 2026.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting south-westwards with height, the India Meteorological Department said.
According to the IMD forecast for today, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface winds with wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph are also very likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The weather office has issued a yellow warning for August 10 and advised people to be aware. Under this, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur and Koraput.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati.
For August 11, a yellow warning continues. Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
On August 12, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at a few places across all districts of Odisha. A yellow warning has also been issued for heavy rainfall at one or two places in Baleshwar, Sundargarh, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.Residents in the affected districts have been advised to stay cautious and follow IMD updates.
