Bhubaneswar: With heavy rain in the upper catchment areas pushing up water levels, authorities at the Rengali Dam in Anugola district opened one sluice gate and started the power channel on Monday to let out excess water into the Brahmani river basin.
According to reports, this is the second time this year that discharge has been undertaken from the dam to manage rising reservoir levels. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of around 2,500 cubic metres. To ensure safety and stability of the structure, nearly 2,000 cubic metres is being released through Gate No. 8 and the power channel.
The reservoir level has climbed to 122.14 metres. It is now close to the full reservoir level of 123.50 metres.
Engineers are closely monitoring the situation and further discharge decisions will depend on rainfall in the catchment and inflow trends.
