Kataka: The Ravenshaw University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) on Monday said academic activities at the varsity are continuing smoothly, with regular classes, postgraduate admissions and undergraduate spot admissions being conducted as scheduled despite the recent campus row.
A RUTA member said all professors are taking classes and that the admission process is progressing without disruption.
“The academic environment at Ravenshaw University is functioning smoothly. All professors are taking classes. PG admissions started last Saturday and are continuing, while UG spot admissions are also underway,” the RUTA member said.
The teachers’ association also said faculty members are continuing with their project work and other academic responsibilities.
“As RUTA, we are also discharging our responsibilities. Everything is functioning smoothly, and no chaotic situation has arisen on the campus,” the member said.
The association, however, reiterated its demand for the withdrawal of a letter written by Kataka Sadar MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi to Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, seeking action against Ravenshaw University’s Head of the Department of Education and Chief Warden, Dr Sudarshan Mishra.
Sethi had sought action against Mishra over his alleged “misconduct” during a meeting convened to resolve an ongoing student protest.
“We have only one demand, and that is the withdrawal of the letter written by Sethi. We have also submitted our other demands to the Vice-Chancellor, and the matter is under consideration,” the RUTA member said.
The association said the Vice-Chancellor has been holding discussions with teachers and has assured them that the issue would be resolved through mutual understanding.
“If the letter is withdrawn, we will have no issues. The Vice-Chancellor has also been speaking with all the teachers and has assured us that the issue will be resolved through mutual understanding,” the member said.
The development comes days after Sethi’s visit to the university in connection with the East Hostel issue. The visit reportedly led to a confrontation with hostel wardens during a meeting convened to discuss the matter, escalating tensions on the campus.
RUTA, however, maintained that the developments have not affected the academic functioning of the university, with classes, admissions and other academic activities continuing as usual.
