Bhubaneswar: A robber was caught and thrashed by locals after he fell off his bike while trying to snatch a chain from a woman in front of AIIMS Hospital here on Tuesday.
According to reports, the woman was accompanying a patient when the accused, who came on a bike, attempted to snatch the chain from her neck.
As the woman resisted and pulled him, the robber lost balance and fell off the bike. Hearing the scream, locals rushed to the spot and caught the youth. He was severely beaten up before being handed over to police.
A gun was recovered from the arrested robber during the search. Police said the accused is believed to be a resident of Ganjam district.
Another person who was riding the bike with him managed to flee from the scene. Khandagiri Police have reached the spot and have started an investigation into the incident.
