Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday updated the financial authority of urban local bodies for clearing bills. The revised powers apply to seven municipal corporations, municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs), and have come into force with immediate effect.
Under the new arrangement, specific limits have been fixed for different officials and office-bearers. Commissioners of municipal corporations can now sanction payments of up to Rs 1 crore. Executive Officers are authorised to clear bills up to Rs 20 lakh, while any amount beyond this will be handled by the respective chairpersons. Mayors have been empowered to approve payments exceeding Rs 1 crore.
In the case of Smart City projects, the Managing Director has been given complete authority to clear all categories of bills without any upper limit.
