Akhilesh Yadav Will Face Consequences: UP Minister Over SP Chief’s ‘Chavanni’ Remark

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief, O.P. Rajbhar, on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav over his recent “chavanni” remarks, accusing him of insulting the Jat community and warning that he would have to face the political consequences of his statements.

Rajbhar’s remarks came days after Yadav’s “chavanni”, or 25-paise jibe, which was widely interpreted as a dig at Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary and his political journey.

Addressing an event recently, Yadav said, “Jaane kahan-kahan se aa gaye the log gathbandhan banane. Humne chavanni ka rupya bana diya tha, tab bhi humein chhod kar chale gaye wo,” suggesting that several leaders had come forward to form an alliance with the SP and that his party had significantly enhanced their political standing, yet they eventually left.

Speaking to IANS, Rajbhar said that Yadav appeared to have lost his political balance and was now making statements without considering their implications.

Rajbhar also backed Union Minister of State and RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary’s criticism of Yadav over the remarks, agreeing with the allegation that the SP chief had insulted the Jat community through his recent comments.

“Certainly, he has insulted the Jat community. The Jat community made Mulayam Singh ji the Chief Minister, and today he is making remarks against the same Jat community. He should read his father’s history,” Rajbhar said.

The Uttar Pradesh minister further invoked the political legacy of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh while attacking Yadav, saying that the veteran leader had played an important role in establishing Mulayam Singh Yadav as a prominent political figure.

“If anyone worked to make his father a leader, it was Chaudhary Charan Singh, and he is now pointing fingers at him and that very community. He will have to face the consequences,” Rajbhar said.

Rajbhar also accused the SP chief of making statements without understanding what he was saying or whom he was targeting.

He himself does not understand what he is saying to whom and when,” Rajbhar added.
