Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday thanked the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for showing strong support on the issue of Centre denying him permission to visit the United States.
Revanth Reddy, who was in London and likely to be back in Hyderabad on Sunday night, took to social media platform X to thank Kharge.
“My deepest gratitude for the strong support from our leader and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji on the issue of Centre denying me permission to travel to the US. I am very thankful to my party, all the leaders and people across the country who supported in this issue in national interest,” he wrote.
“I have concluded all my meetings and scheduled events in London and I am grateful for the overwhelming support that I have received in past three days. In a few hours, I will be taking a flight back home to Hyderabad instead of proceeding to Boston as per original schedule, after the Ministry of External Affairs (Central government) denied permission for my US tour for political reasons,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that he will speak about all the related issues once he returns to Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on August 21 that Revanth Reddy cancelled his visit to the US after the MEA denied him permission.
The Chief Minister, who had left for London on August 20, for a 10-day visit to the UK and the US, was scheduled to leave for the US on August 23.
According to the CMO, the state government had sought Centre’s permission for the visits to the UK and the US, as per policy and protocol, but only the UK trip was approved.
The MEA said on Sunday in a briefing that the Union government declined political clearance to the Telangana Chief Minister to visit the US because the programmes scheduled there were not appropriate to the office he held and the stated purpose of the visit.
“Let me say that the visits of Chief Ministers, as indeed those of other dignitaries, are assessed by the Ministry of External Affairs in order to accord political clearance. The programme proposed in such cases should be appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit,” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters.
