Hirakud: Four more sluice gates of the Hirakud reservoir were opened on Monday as the water level continued to rise, taking the total number of operational sluice gates to 12, officials said.
An order was issued to open four additional gates, following which eight gates on the left side and four on the right side are now open. The reservoir level stood at 623.08 feet at 3 pm on Monday, showing a rising trend.
The average inflow into the reservoir was recorded at 1,73,377 cusecs, also showing a rising trend, while the average outflow stood at 1,62,330 cusecs.
Of the total outflow, 1,27,248 cusecs was being released through the spillway and 31,841 cusecs through the power channel. Around 229 cusecs was being supplied for industrial use, while 3,012 cusecs was released through canals.
Downstream, the discharge at Mundali was recorded at 2,32,384 cusecs, while Khairmal recorded 2,06,000 cusecs and Barmul 1,55,000 cusecs. Patharla recorded a discharge of 75,073 cusecs and Belgaon 66,400 cusecs.
The reservoir and downstream gauges were being closely monitored in view of the rising inflow and water discharge.
