Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting on the overall progress of the second phase of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-assisted Rengali Irrigation Project was held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Water Resources Department Principal Secretary Shubha Sharma.
The meeting reviewed in detail the physical and financial progress of the project, ongoing civil works, creation of irrigation potential, land acquisition and forest clearance, besides the status of major infrastructure works being executed under the project.
Progress of various ongoing work packages was also examined, with particular focus on the steps being taken for implementation of the G-III package. Officials briefed the meeting on the status of land acquisition, forest clearance and command area development, along with the progress achieved under different work packages.
The meeting was attended by Director, R&R Ashok Kumar Behera, EIC-cum-Special Secretary Bighnaraj Purohit and Chief Engineer of the JICA Project Bignan Prasad Sahu, who joined the meeting virtually. Senior engineers, departmental officials, members of the project management team and other concerned officials were also present.
The review assumes significance as the JICA-assisted project is aimed at expanding irrigation potential and strengthening irrigation infrastructure in the Rengali command area.
