Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) on Tuesday said it issued a total of 29,876 challans across the state on August 31 as part of a crackdown on violations of road safety rules.
According to the STA, 17,406 challans were issued to motorists for riding without helmets, while 2,799 challans were issued for overspeeding. Another 917 challans were issued for triple riding, while 642 were issued for driving without valid insurance.
“Strict action against violation of road safety rules,” the STA said in a post on X, urging people to follow traffic regulations to ensure their own safety as well as that of other road users.
“Following the rules is the best step for the safety of your own and others’ lives. Always adhere to road rules, stay away from road accidents,” it said.
The transport authority has been emphasising compliance with traffic regulations to reduce road accidents and promote safer road use across Odisha.
