Malkangiri: Two wildlife traffickers were arrested after the Forest Department seized around 8 kg of soft-shell turtle meat in Malkangiri district, officials said on Tuesday.
Acting on reliable information about illegal transportation of wildlife, officials of the Motu Forest Range conducted an operation near Konta Bridge in Motu on Monday and intercepted the suspected consignment.
During the operation, the officials seized approximately 8 kg of soft-shell turtle meat from two accused persons, who were subsequently detained, the officials said.
A forest case, registered as OR 19 of 2026-27 of Motu Range, has been lodged under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, for illegal possession and transportation of wildlife.
Further investigation into the case is underway, the Forest Department said.
