New Delhi: Union Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday welcomed the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) decision to call off the September 5 protest march following the Supreme Court’s directive to quash FIRs registered against student protesters in various parts of the country, stating that the government is going to fulfil the assurances made to the student agitators.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed FIRs registered against student protesters in Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Assam in connection with protests held between July 20 and 25, and directed that similar cases registered across the country will not be pursued or investigated.
Addressing a press conference, Nadda said: “On July 25, 2026, Dr Jitendra Singh, my colleague in the Central Government, and I held talks with representatives of the students involved in the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar. Keeping the future of the students in mind, we assured them, on behalf of the Government of India, that the cases registered against the protesting students would be withdrawn and that no strict action would be taken against them in future.”
“In this regard, we also discussed the matter with the governments in BJP-ruled states, and we are going to fulfil that assurance. We welcome the decision announced by the CJP spokesperson at a press conference to withdraw the proposed protest scheduled for September 5.”
“The growth and development of the youth is the biggest priority of the government,” he asserted.
Earlier, CJP’s chief spokesperson Saurav Das asserted that the outfit couldn’t have let students’ futures get affected for participating in the agitation.
Das also mentioned that CJP had urged the government to state before the Supreme Court that the compensation which was promised to the families of those students who committed suicide due to the NEET paper leak would be paid within 90 days, “in an honourable amount”.
“The funds will be credited directly to the families’ bank accounts. The government gave this assurance to the Supreme Court today, and the Court accepted it, granting it judicial sanctity by incorporating it into its order,” he stated.
Previously, the CJP had announced a protest march from India Gate to the New Delhi Police Headquarters, alleging that the Centre had failed to honour commitments made to young people on July 25 following the withdrawal of nationwide youth protests.
