Puri: One tourist drowned to death and another was critically injured after five tourists were swept away while bathing in the sea near the lighthouse at Puri beach on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Sumit Gupta of Ranipur in Uttar Pradesh, while the critically injured tourist, Anish Singh of Bihar, was shifted to Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
According to reports, five tourists were caught in the sea while bathing near the lighthouse. Three of them were rescued safely, while Sumit and Anish were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in a serious condition. Sumit later succumbed during treatment, while Anish was shifted to Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated.
