Bhubaneswar: A grand Shakti Show was organised at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, where around 300 Self-Help Group (SHG) women trained under the joint initiative of the Department of Mission Shakti, Government of Odisha, and the National Commission for Women (NCW) showcased their strength, confidence and self-defence skills through an impressive Shakti Parade-cum-Demonstration.
The programme was graced by Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson, NCW, dignitaries from Mission Shakti and WCD, Odisha, along with Secretaries and representatives from 22 States/UTs participating in the Shakti Summit.
The trained SHG women participated in the parade and presented a live demonstration of self-defence techniques acquired during the training. Certificates were distributed to participants, while self-defence kits provided under the programme were also showcased.
The Shakti Show reflected the larger vision of the Shakti Summit — equipping women with skills, confidence and agency while strengthening institutional mechanisms for their safety and empowerment. Shakti Summit Concludes With Call For Outcome-Oriented ActionThe two-day Shakti Summit, organised by NCW in Bhubaneswar, concluded with emphasis on translating policy discussions and institutional learnings into actionable measures for women’s safety, protection and empowerment.
The valedictory session was held in presence of Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, ACS Housing & Urban Development Usha Padhee, NCW Member Secretary Sudeep Jain, and WCD Secretary Dr Mrinalini Darswal, along with Secretaries and senior officials from Women & Child Development Departments of 22 States/UTs.The session reflected on key discussions of the Summit, which provided a platform for States and UTs to share experiences, challenges and successful initiatives relating to women’s safety and empowerment.
The deliberations emphasised need to move beyond scheme-based approach towards outcome-oriented implementation, with focus on tangible difference made in lives of women. The Summit also highlighted importance of peer learning and inter-state collaboration.
The two-day Summit concluded with a shared commitment to translate deliberations into concrete measures for creating a safer and more empowered environment for women.
