Bhubaneswar: A hoolock gibbon briefly escaped from its enclosure at Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Friday, prompting zoo authorities to launch efforts to safely bring the animal back. The gibbon, however, returned to its enclosure before the tranquilisation team could carry out the operation.
According to reports, the hoolock gibbon managed to escape from its enclosure and was later spotted sitting near a tree on the zoo premises. Some visitors noticed the animal outside its enclosure and alerted the zoo authorities.
On receiving the information, zoo officials immediately reached the spot and assessed the situation. As a precautionary measure and to ensure the safe capture of the animal, the authorities informed the tranquilisation team.
The team reached the spot and began preparations to capture the gibbon. However, before the tranquilisation operation could be carried out, the animal reportedly moved back into its enclosure.
The development caused concern among visitors at the zoo, though the situation was brought under control after the gibbon returned to its enclosure.
There was no immediate response from the zoo authorities regarding the incident.
