CPI-M Calls For Protest March After Party Office Set On Fire In Bengal’s Jalpaiguri

Kolkata: The CPI-M has called for a protest march in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday after its party office there was vandalised and set on fire.

The party alleged that on Monday night, miscreants affiliated with the BJP attacked the party’s district office on DBC Road in Jalpaiguri and set it on fire after vandalising the premises with sticks.

The violence allegedly continued for quite some time, the CPI-M said, adding that it filed a written complaint with the police.

CPIM state Secretary Md Salim expressed his anger over this incident.

Posting a video of the incident on his X handle, he wrote: “Attack by BJP miscreants on the Jalpaiguri CPIM district office! They attacked like thieves at around 10:30 pm.”

The video shows that a group of people suddenly attacked the party office and set it on fire. Those who were inside the party office immediately closed the gate. After this, the miscreants tried to break the gate and also tried to threaten them.

CPI-M’s district Secretary Piyush Mishra on Tuesday demanded the arrest of the miscreants. “RSS-BJP miscreants vandalised the Jalpaiguri district party office, set it on fire, and even burned the party flag. The miscreants must be arrested immediately,” he said.

The CPIM leader announced that a protest march will be taken out from Jalpaiguri district by 4 p.m. on Tuesday to condemn the incident. He urged everyone to join the protest march to protect the red flag from the Subodh Sen Bhavan district centre in Jalpaiguri.

So far, there has been no response from the BJP in this regard.
