Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested a junior assistant for allegedly misappropriating government funds to the tune of Rs 1.15 crore through fraudulent bills while serving at two community health centres in Sambalpur district.
The accused, Mir Imtiyaz Ali, was serving as Junior Assistant at CHC Fasimal under Jamankira Block and was also holding charge as Junior Assistant at CHC Govindpur under Bamra Block.
According to the Vigilance, Ali allegedly generated false online and offline bills in the names of retired employees under various financial heads, including arrear salaries, unutilised leave encashment and provisional pensions, during the financial years 2021-22 to 2026-27.
Instead of disbursing the amounts to the concerned retirees or depositing them with the government, he allegedly diverted Rs 70,57,450 into his own bank accounts while posted at CHC Fasimal. Similarly, he allegedly misappropriated another Rs 44,57,089 during his tenure at CHC Govindpur.
The total amount allegedly misappropriated by Ali stands at Rs 1,15,14,539, the Vigilance said.
Two cases have been registered against him at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, and Section 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Ali will be forwarded to the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur. Further investigation into the case is underway.
