Bhubaneswar: Odisha may experience an early onset of summer this year, with higher heat and humidity compared to last year, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said.
The minister said the state government has begun advance preparations in view of the possibility. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), other weather agencies and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) are studying the emerging weather pattern, he said.
However, Pujari clarified that the assessment was preliminary and that a clearer picture would emerge only after further analysis. He urged people not to panic, saying the government was taking precautionary measures well in advance to deal with any possible heat-related situation.
The minister said the administration would continue to monitor weather developments and take necessary steps based on the findings of the ongoing studies.
