Brahmapur: A 16-year-old boy died after coming in contact with an 11 kV power line while putting up a decorative arch (torana) for Ganesh Puja in Ganjam district, police said.
The incident took place at Dhobadi village under Hinjili Bellagam police station limits, where local youths had gathered to prepare the entrance arch for the festival. The deceased, identified as Sudhanshu Patra, climbed onto the tent structure to fix the toran when he accidentally came into contact with the high-voltage wire and fell to the ground.
His companions immediately rescued him and rushed him to Bellagam Primary Health Centre (PHC) in a critical condition. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
On being informed, Bellagam police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body was sent to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Brahmapur for post-mortem examination.
