Bhubaneswar: The body of Agalpur Samiti Member Achyuta Nayak was recovered from inside his car on the Chinajuri canal road under Dunguripali block in Subarnapur district.
Though the exact motive behind the murder is not yet clear, multiple bullet injuries were clearly visible on his body.
The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night but came to light on Friday morning. After the news spread, tension prevailed in the entire area.
According to family members, Achyuta, a resident of Kebada village under Barpali block of Bargada district and the samiti member of Agalpur panchayat, had left home in his car for some work towards neighbouring Dunguripali block via the canal road last night. On Friday morning, his car was found parked on the roadside of Chinajuri canal in Dunguripali block. Achyuta’s bullet-ridden, blood-soaked body was found lying on the driver’s seat.
After getting information, teams of Dunguripali and Barpali police reached the spot. Considering the gravity of the case, Subarnapur Superintendent of Police and Bargarh Superintendent of Police also visited the crime scene.
Meanwhile, police have started a probe from all angles – whether it is personal enmity or political rivalry. Besides, police investigation is underway to ascertain the real motive behind the murder.
Police said they are giving importance to evidence collected from the spot to unravel the mystery. Former minister Rita Sahu along with local BJD leaders and block representatives also reached the spot.
The mysterious murder has created an atmosphere of panic and shock in Agalpur, Barpali and Dunguripali areas.
