Gujarat Assembly Monsoon Session Ends After 18 Hours, Seven Bills Passed

Gandhinagar: The three-day Monsoon Session of the 15th Gujarat Legislative Assembly concluded after 18 hours and 32 minutes of proceedings, with the House passing seven government Bills aimed at “public welfare and the development” of the state.

Spokesperson Minister Jitu Vaghani, while giving details of the session after its conclusion, said the proceedings were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere in accordance with democratic traditions.

He thanked Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, members of the ruling party and Opposition, and the government machinery for the successful conduct of the session.

The Assembly held three sittings during the session, with a total of 18 hours and 32 minutes of proceedings.

Vaghani said 52 MLAs participated in various discussions during the three-day session. “Seven government Bills were passed within two days, with the measures focused on the development of the state and public welfare. The passage of the Bills reflected the government’s commitment to public-interest work,” he said.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also made a statement in the House on a matter of public importance under Rule 44. On the final day of the session, a special discussion was held under Rule 102 on the “Tribal Welfare Scheme”.

A minister also made a statement on a matter of public importance under Rule 116. The House paid tribute to five leaders who had died, with obituary references made during the session.

“During Question Hour, 1,356 starred questions were received for oral answers, of which 29 were taken up for oral discussion in the House. A total of 152 unstarred questions were received, while 88 unstarred questions were laid on the Table under Rule 87(A),” he noted.

The proceedings also saw the presentation of five reports of various committees. Twenty-three reports relating to government companies, boards and corporations, along with one budget, were laid on the Table.

“In addition, 69 notifications, two ordinances and one statement of assurances were laid before the House. The Comptroller and Auditor General’s audit report on the Jal Jeevan Mission was also tabled,” he said.

One Bill that had received the President’s assent and five Bills that had received the Governor’s assent were also laid on the Table during the session.

The Assembly also recorded participation from members of the public, with around 5,246 visitors from across Gujarat visiting the legislature to witness its proceedings and observe the functioning of the democratic system.
