Bhubaneswar: Four persons were arrested for allegedly robbing a passenger from Mumbai of Rs 21,000 after offering him a lift in an autorickshaw in the city on the night of September 9, police said on Sunday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Santosh Maharana and Kunal Mallick, while two others were also taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to police, the passenger had arrived at Bhubaneswar railway station and hired an autorickshaw to reach his destination. However, instead of taking him to his intended destination, the accused allegedly took him to an area beneath the Satsang Vihar overbridge.
The accused allegedly threatened the passenger with sharp weapons and robbed him of Rs 21,000 before fleeing the spot.
Following the incident, the passenger lodged a complaint with Saheed Nagar police, following which an investigation was launched. Police examined the circumstances surrounding the incident and subsequently arrested four persons in connection with the alleged robbery.
The autorickshaw driver, who is suspected to have played a role in the crime, is still absconding, police said.
Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the driver, while further investigation into the case is in progress.
