Kataka: Students of Ravenshaw University’s second campus have staged a dharna alleging mismanagement and inadequate infrastructure, with complaints ranging from lack of hostel-related facilities to absence of laboratories, medical services and security measures.
The protesting students alleged that although the hostel has started functioning, no professor, lecturer or warden resides on the campus. They also claimed that smart boards installed in classrooms are not functioning, while the campus lacks adequate medical facilities and university bus services, creating difficulties during emergencies.
The students further alleged that the second campus does not have Physics and Chemistry laboratories, forcing them to travel around 15 km to the university’s first campus for practical classes. They also expressed concern over student safety, claiming that overgrown trees and bushes have become a potential security hazard.
According to the students, the issues have been brought to the authorities’ notice several times, but no effective steps have been taken to address them. They have now resorted to a sit-in protest demanding early resolution of their grievances.
Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor said the complaints raised by the students have been received and that the second campus would be inspected soon. Necessary steps would be taken to resolve the problems, the VC said.
Meanwhile, the students’ protest has brought the infrastructure and management of the university’s second campus into focus, with the agitating students awaiting concrete action from the authorities.
