Baleshwar: Sahadevkhunta police in Baleshwar seized 146 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs 14 lakh, and arrested two persons in connection with alleged drug peddling, police said Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off about the sale of brown sugar near Malgodam behind Baleshwar railway station, a police team conducted a raid in the area and apprehended two persons. The accused were identified as Prashant Kumar Nanda alias Badal of Nandola village under Salepur police station limits in Kataka district and Rashmiranjan Barik of Sishua village.
Police also seized two mobile phones from their possession.
Nanda reportedly has several criminal cases pending against him at Jagatpur and Lalbag police stations in Kataka.
Sahadevkhunta police have registered Case No. 391 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a further investigation into the alleged drug network, police said.
