Puri: A unique cardboard idol of Lord Ganesha created by artist Banambar Pattanaik is attracting crowds of tourists on the beach here during Niladri Bije.
As per reports, the four-feet-high and four-feet-wide sculpture, made from cardboard, foam, cloth and stone, has been installed on the sand facing the sea. The idol’s trunk and face appear to float in mid-air, creating a striking visual effect. With the sea forming a backdrop that resembles Lord Ganesha’s belly, the display has become a major attraction for visitors.
According to the artist, the idol weighs only four kilograms. Pattanaik said he conceptualised the work with the aim of offering something new and different to devotees.
He noted that various artists present their own creative interpretations of the deity, and he has earlier received appreciation for similar innovative idols made from different materials.
His artworks have also found a place in the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.
