Bhubaneswar: Two students drowned in the Ghodahad river here on Wednesday while taking part in the immersion of a Ganesh idol in Ganjam district.
The deceased have been identified as Adarsh Sahu (14) of Gajapati Marg area under Hinjilicut municipality and Preetam Sameli (14) of Gayatri Nagar. Both boys had gone to the river along with others for the immersion ceremony. Due to carelessness, they walked into deep water and drowned.
Local people rescued them in a critical condition and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the locality, with the families of the two students inconsolable.
Police have seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
