Puri: Two minor tourists were rescued from drowning in the sea here on Wednesday after they were swept into deep waters by a strong rip current, officials said.
The rescued minors were identified as Ayush Gupta, 17, and Ayan Gupta, 14, from Kantabanji area of Balangir district.
According to reports, the two were bathing in the sea in front of Sector-4 Puri Hotel in the afternoon when they were caught in a rip current and swept away from the shore.
Hearing their cries for help, lifeguards deployed on the beach immediately entered the water and brought both minors safely back to shore.
The two were administered first aid on the beach following the rescue. They were subsequently reported to be in good health.
The incident highlights the risks posed by rip currents, which are strong channels of water flowing away from the shore and can quickly pull swimmers into deeper waters.
