Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday attended a mega blood donation camp organised at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-3 as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the experience of saving a life through blood donation reflects the highest human values.
He noted that despite scientific progress, there is still no alternative to blood and it cannot be manufactured in any factory. Prior to the event, the Chief Minister planted an Ashoka sapling at Lok Seva Bhawan.
On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday, Chief Minister Majhi conveyed warm greetings on behalf of 4.5 crore people of Odisha. He said that Prime Minister Modi, the architect of a developed India, has brought about a complete transformation in the country through his 50 years of public service and 25 years of continuous governance. Inspired by his ideals of welfare, the ongoing one-month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is not merely a programme but a massive public movement of service and sacrifice.
The Chief Minister further stated that the state government is committed to ensuring that no life is lost due to shortage of blood. The mega camp has set a target of collecting more than 6,500 units of blood. To strengthen blood security in the state, a provision of Rs 50 crore 54 lakh has been made in the 2026-27 budget under the “Atal Blood Donation Campaign”. Under this initiative, new blood banks are being established in newly opened medical colleges and existing blood banks are being modernised.
Highlighting India’s progress, the Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has emerged as an influential geopolitical and economic power on the world stage. Defence imports have declined from 70 per cent to 35 per cent, and the country is becoming self-reliant in semiconductor and space technology. He expressed confidence that the goal of a developed India will be achieved before 2047.
Calling upon the youth, he urged them to spare some time from their daily lives for social service and dedicate themselves to nation-building, describing it as the best tribute to Prime Minister Modi.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said that the day is not an ordinary one. It is a sacred occasion to remember the 25 years of selfless service and resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed that blood donation is essential to save valuable lives and that the spirit of service and dedication must remain strong among all. He expressed confidence that the camp would create a new record in blood collection in the state.
Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal said that Prime Minister Modi has created a unique record by successfully serving as a people’s representative for 25 consecutive years. Through continuous service to the common people, he has earned a distinct identity across the world, which everyone should remember.
He noted that the large-scale blood donation camp would help address the shortage of blood in blood banks that has been felt since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, Khordha MLA Prasanta Kumar Jagadev, Bhatli MLA Irasis Acharya, Mahakalpada MLA Durga Prasan Nayak, youth leader Abhilash Panda, senior party leaders, blood donors, young volunteers and media representatives.
