Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has declared the Lok Seva Bhavan premises as a tobacco-free zone with a view to protecting public health and creating a clean and healthy environment.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department. Tobacco use is a major cause of various non-communicable diseases including cancer, heart disease and lung diseases. The notification mentions that about 1.3 million people die every year in the country due to tobacco use.
As per the notification, smoking, tobacco consumption and spitting of tobacco has been completely prohibited in the premises of Lok Seva Bhavan. Violation of this rule will be considered an offence punishable under law.
On this occasion, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling said the step has been taken to strengthen the goals of Swachh Bharat, Swastha Bharat and Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan and to make Lok Seva Bhavan a clean, healthy and tobacco-free workplace.
