Rescued Orangutan Babies At Nandankanan Zoo Remain Stable

Bhubaneswar: The health condition of five orangutan babies rescued from Bhogarai in Baleshwar district is normal, according to the health bulletin issued by the Nandankanan Zoological Park authorities on September 17, 2026.

The infants, currently under specialised care at the zoo, were found to be in apparently stable condition during their clinical assessment. The group consists of three males and two females.

According to the health bulletin, their body weights were recorded on September 16. Male 1 weighed 5.1 kg with a body temperature of 99.3°F measured through a thermal camera. Male 2 weighed 3.56 kg with a temperature of 99.5°F. Male 3 weighed 2.94 kg with a temperature of 99.9°F. Female 1 weighed 4.23 kg with a temperature of 98.6°F, while Female 2 weighed 2.14 kg with a temperature of 99.3°F.

In every case, feed acceptance was normal and their overall health appeared stable at the time of examination.

Paediatric specialists were consulted as part of the ongoing care. Medications for anaemia are continuing, and the activities of all five orangutans are being monitored round the clock and have been found to be normal. The Nandankanan authorities continue to keep a close watch on the rescued infants to ensure their steady recovery.
