Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway has launched the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag: Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, with a focus on Jan Bhagidari, cleanliness and sustainable waste management.

On the occasion, Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager, East Coast Railway, administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff today and called upon them to make cleanliness a personal responsibility. He urged railway employees to lead by example and actively involve passengers, stakeholders and the public in the cleanliness movement.

The campaign, being conducted from 17th September to 2nd October 2026, covers ECoR Headquarters, Divisions, railway stations, trains, offices, workshops, hospitals and residential colonies. The initiative focuses on five major pillars—Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units, Swachh Paathshala – Youth for Cleanliness, Safai Mitra Suraksha evam Samman Shivir, Jan Bhagidari for Cleanliness and Swachhata Se Samriddhi.

A wide range of activities are being organised, including Swachh Stations and Swachh Railgaadi drives, cleaning of drains and toilets, railway colony cleanliness, awareness on Solid Waste Management, four-stream waste segregation at source, composting, “Say No to Plastics” campaigns and clearance of legacy waste. Special attention is also being given to the welfare, safety and dignity of Safai Mitras through health check-up camps and dedicated safety initiatives.

On 1st October, a mass Shramdaan will be organised under “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath”, followed by Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd October with the Swachhata Pledge, Prabhat Pheris, Nukkad Nataks and plantation activities under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”

As part of the Swachhata Pledge, railway personnel are encouraged to dedicate 100 hours every year to cleanliness activities and motivate others to contribute towards the cause.

Through Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, ECoR aims to transform cleanliness into a sustained public movement, encouraging responsible waste management, behavioural change and active community participation towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable railway environment.
