Sundaragada: The body Prajnashree Paramita Purohit Panda (39), who went missing after being swept away in the Ib River at Kanhakonda tourist spot under Balishankara block, was recovered on Saturday.
As per reports, search operations by ODRAF and the Fire Department continued since Thursday. On Saturday, local fishermen spotted a body near Sankobahal ghat under Kusumura panchayat and immediately alerted the concerned authorities. Rescue teams and police subsequently rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the river around 12:30 pm. It was later identified as that of Prajnashree Panda, a resident of Sundargarh.
It is pertinent to mention that Prajnashree had visited the popular Kanhakonda tourist spot, also known as the Grand Canyon of Odisha, with her family members on Thursday afternoon. She slipped on the rocky riverbed and was swept away by the strong current, remaining untraced until Saturday.
After formalities by Talsara Police followed by post-mortem at Sundaragada District Headquarters Hospital, mortal remains to be cremated at Swargadwar on the outskirts of Sundargada town in the late afternoon or evening hours.
The recovery of her body has left the family and local community in deep mourning.
