Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast formation of a new low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensify into a depression and deep depression in the next few days.
According to IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation is currently active over the North Andaman Sea and its adjoining areas. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region by today evening. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually concentrate. It is likely to intensify into a depression by September 21 and further into a deep depression by September 22 over the east-central Bay of Bengal. After that, the system is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards towards the South Odisha – North Andhra Pradesh by September 23.
IMD said it is closely monitoring the system and rainfall activity is likely to increase over Odisha from September 22 onwards under its influence.
