Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression on September 21 and further into a deep depression by September 22 before moving towards the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea moved west-northwestwards and lay over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal at 5.30 pm on Sunday.
The system is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and gradually intensify into a depression over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal on September 21, the weather office said.
It is further expected to intensify into a deep depression over the westcentral Bay of Bengal on September 22.
Continuing its west-northwestward movement, the system is very likely to reach the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, near the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts, around the morning of September 23, the IMD said.
The development is likely to influence weather conditions along the Odisha coast, with further details on rainfall, wind and sea conditions expected as the system progresses.
