Ahmedabad: An eight-foot elephant and children dressed as rabbits became the centre of a traffic awareness skit staged at a signal on Ahmedabad’s CG Road, with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) using the 30-second red-light waiting period to convey a message on responsible driving.
Titled ‘The Elephant and the Rabbit’, the campaign was organised at the Municipal Market signal to highlight the risks that smaller vehicle users, cyclists and pedestrians can face from the movement of larger vehicles.
The initiative was led by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Hitesh Barot and Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani and focused on traffic rule compliance and responsible road behaviour.
During the red signal, an eight-foot elephant represented a large vehicle, while children dressed as rabbits represented smaller vehicles and pedestrians.
The brief live performance was designed to attract the attention of motorists waiting at the junction and convey the road safety message within the limited time available before the signal changed.
The central message of the skit was: “Being big does not only mean having power, it also means having responsibility.”
Through the elephant-and-rabbit analogy, the campaign urged drivers of larger vehicles to remain mindful of smaller vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians sharing the road with them.
The presentation sought to underline that road safety involves consideration for other road users as well as compliance with traffic regulations.
The AMC said the initiative aimed to use a creative format to communicate traffic safety rather than relying only on conventional reminders about rules.
The performance focused on coexistence, sensitivity and responsibility among different categories of road users.
The campaign was staged amid regular traffic movement on CG Road, with the red-light interval providing the setting for the short performance.
The symbolic representation was intended to reinforce the message that a vehicle’s size and strength also bring greater responsibility towards vulnerable road users.
The AMC’s initiative centred on a simple road-safety principle: drivers should remain aware of the space and safety of others around them, particularly smaller vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
