Malkangiri / Nabarangapur: In view of the heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, the administrations of Malkangiri and Nabarangapur districts have ordered the closure of schools and Anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure.
In Malkangiri, all government, government-aided and private schools along with Anganwadi centres will remain closed from September 23 to 25, 2026.
According to an office order issued by the District Education Office on September 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted wind, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning during the period. The closure covers all schools under the School & Mass Education Department, ST & SC Development Department, as well as aided and private institutions. However, the pre-scheduled NRTS examination on September 22 will be conducted as usual. Headmasters, teachers, Anganwadi workers and other staff have been directed to remain present in their respective institutions.
In Nabarangpur, district Collector has ordered closure of all Anganwadi centres and educational institutions for two days – on September 23 and 24, in view of the possible cyclonic situation. Institutions where essential examinations are scheduled have been exempted from the order.
As a precautionary measure, the Collector has cancelled the leaves of all government officials for September 23 and 24 and appointed five Nodal Officers for five blocks – Nabarangapur, Tentulikhunti, Nandahandi, Kosagumuda and Papadahandi – to monitor the situation.
Additionally, movement of country boats in the Indravati reservoir has been prohibited.
The administration in both districts said the decisions have been taken to avoid any untoward incident and ensure the safety of children and public.
