Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly failed to transact any business on the first day of its Monsoon Session on Monday after Opposition members created a ruckus right from the Question Hour.
According to reports, as soon as the House assembled, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 1:10 pm keeping the uproar in view.
Earlier, after the House proceedings began, obituary references were moved for departed leaders and those who lost their lives in the floods in Nepal. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi moved condolence motions for former ministers Damburudhar Majhi, Sushant Singh, former Government Chief Whip Satya Bhusan Sahu, Ramamurthy Gamango, Haji Mohammed Ayub Khan and Sibaji Majhi. The motion was supported by the Opposition. All members stood in silence and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.
However, as soon as the Question Hour began after that, Opposition members started creating a ruckus over various issues ranging from the MMDR Amendment Bill to the correction of errors in textbooks which led to disruption of the House.
