Bhubaneswar: Women from 14 families in Bahubandh Gram Panchayat under Udala block of Mayurbhanj district have earned Rs 24,010 through vegetable cultivation with support from the Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM).
Associated with the Birsa Munda and Matrushakti Producer Groups, the women cultivated brinjal and ridge gourd and produced 630 kg of vegetables in a single harvest.
The produce was collectively marketed, fetching the group a total income of Rs 24,010.
The initiative has helped the women augment their household incomes and strengthen their role in the economic empowerment of their families.
The collective production and marketing model has also helped them improve their earnings and reduce their dependence on individual market arrangements.
The Odisha Livelihoods Mission said the initiative highlights the potential of organised women’s groups to create sustainable livelihood opportunities at the grassroots level.
